With their 81-67 win over Cornell on Jan. 8 at Cameron Indoor Stadium, the No. 9/8 Duke Blue Devils improve to 11-1 on the season while the Big Red fall to 6-5 on the season. Duke is now 4-0 all-time against Cornell.
Against the Ivy League, Duke is now 47-9 overall and 23-1 under coach Mike Krzyzewski. Duke has also won 21 straight against the Ivy League dating back to Dec. 12, 1981, with a 72-55 setback against Princeton.
Coach Mike Krzyzewski is now 786-262 all-time and moves into a tie for sixth place on the NCAA all-time wins chart. He is now tied with former Duke player Lefty Driesell. With Eddie Sutton now coaching at San Francisco with 798 wins, Coach K is third among active coaches. Sutton is fifth overall while first overall is Coach K's college coach, Bob Knight, with 897 wins.
Duke has now won 58 straight non-conference home games, the longest active streak in the nation and second-longest streak in school history. The streak includes seven games this season. Duke's last loss at home to a non-ACC opponent was Feb. 26, 2000, in an 83-82 decision to St. John's.
Duke is 185-54 in the month of January under Coach K. Duke has won six straight and 79 of the last 86 in January. Duke has now won 13 straight games after the holiday break.
Senior DeMarcus Nelson matched his season high with 23 points, shooting 8-of-13 from the field including 2-of-5 from behind the arc, and 5-of-8 from behind the line. He added eight rebounds and a pair of steals and assists.
Nelson became the 55th player in Duke history to record 1,000 career points. He entered the game with 984 career points and now has 1,007. He passed Rick Kathermann (1969-71 ? 1,005 points) and moved into 54th on the career chart.
Nelson recorded his second straight 20-point game at home, his second of the season and fifth of his career.
Nelson has 10 games this season and 53 in his career scoring in double figures.
Kyle Singler scored 14 points, shooting 5-of-12 from the field and 4-of-6 from the line, and added eight rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal. It's his eighth game scoring in double figures.
Gerald Henderson scored 12 points shooting 5-of-11 from the field and 2-of-3 from the line, and added six rebounds, three steals, two assists and a block. It marks his 10th game in double figures this season, tied for the team lead, and 17th such game of his career.
Greg Paulus scored 11 points and added four assists and three rebounds. It marks Paulus' fifth game scoring in double figures this season and 37th of his career.
Duke has now sold out 265 consecutive games at Cameron Indoor Stadium dating back to a game against Boston College on Nov. 16, 1990.
