Sophomore Josh McRoberts recorded career highs of 19 points, six blocks and four steals and added six rebounds and four assists vs. Kent State. He became the first player in Duke history to record four or more in all five statistical categories. A total of 10 players have recorded three or more in all five categories a total of 11 times in Duke history, including McRoberts' performance against Kent State. McRoberts has reached double figures in five games this year and 20 in his career. Duke is 19-1 when McRoberts scores in double-figures in his career.
Duke owns the nation's longest home winning streak against non-conference opponents at 49 games. The Blue Devils last lost in Cameron Indoor Stadium to a non-league team on February 26, 2000, against St. John's (83-82). The longest such streak in school history was a 95-game effort that ended with a loss to Illinois on December 2, 1995. Duke has also won 179 of its last 182 non-conference home games.
Duke has now started 9-0 at home 22 times, including 15 times under Coach K and in each of the last 10 seasons (1940, 1942, 1950, 1963, 1964, 1966, 1978, 1984, 1986, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007).
Duke improves to 147-23 under Coach K all-time in the month of December and has won 32 straight in December. The last December loss for the Blue Devils was an 84-83 loss by No. 1 Duke to No. 3 Stanford on Dec. 21, 2000. Duke is 60-3 in December since the 1996-97 season.
Duke's 79 points is the second-highest total of the season and most since scoring 86 against Columbia in the season opener on Nov. 12. Kent State's 72 points is the most by an opponent at Cameron Indoor Stadium this season by 19 points. The previous high was 53 for George Mason on Dec. 9. The 72 points is the second-highest total given up by Duke behind the 73-62 loss to Marquette on Nov. 21.
Duke held a slight 32-30 advantage in the rebounding column, marking the ninth time in 11 games that Duke has held the rebounding advantage. Duke holds a +6.5 rebounding advantage over its opponents this season (35.5 to 29.0).
Duke continued its impressive shooting from long range, connecting on 8-of-17 (.471) three pointers against Kent State. Duke has hit at least five triples in eight straight games but has recorded the two highest totals in the last two games. Duke has hit 17-of-37 (.459) from behind the arc in the last two games.
Junior DeMarcus Nelson scored 18 points off of a 6-of-11 shooting performance, including 2-of-5 from behind the arc and 4-of-6 from the free throw line. Nelson added six rebounds and three assists in 36 minutes of action. Nelson has reached double figures in 10 of Duke's 11 games this season and in 25 games in his career. Duke is 22-3 when Nelson reaches double-figures.
Freshman Jon Scheyer recorded a career high 39 minutes played and responded with 17 points while shooting 5-of-9 from the field, 4-of-7 from behind the arc and 3-of-3 from the free throw line. He added three rebounds, three steals and three assists for the Blue Devils. It marked Scheyer's seventh game this season reaching double figures. Scheyer scored 10 consecutive points in the midst of a Duke 14-0 run in the first half. Scheyer hit three triples and converted on a four-point play on the last one. All 10 points came in the span of 1:38 on the game clock.
Sophomore Greg Paulus recorded 12 points, hitting 2-of-3 from behind the arc and a perfect 6-of-6 from the line against Kent State. He also recorded a team-high five assists and just two turnovers to go with three rebounds in 30 minutes of action. It marked his second game with double-figures in points this season and 13th of his career. Duke is 12-1 in Paulus' career when he scores in double figures.
Tuesday marked the 248th consecutive sellout at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The last non-sellout at Cameron was Nov. 16, 1990, in a 100-76 win over Boston College.
