Duke jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first game behind a pair of kills from sophomore Sue Carls and after the Eagles closed the gap, a service ace by freshman Rachael Moss gave Duke a 9-6 lead. Four kills from four different players gave Duke an early 5-1 lead in the second game but the Eagles fought back and tied the game at 7 apiece and eventually took a 12-9 lead. Some tough serving from Hausfeld, who served five straight points, put Duke up 17-13 and Duke held a 26-20 lead before the Eagles made it interesting by scoring eight of the next nine points to pull within one at 29-28. A Carls kill from Hausfeld ended the game at 30-28.

Duke went to the bench and the Eagles made a little run to pull within 10 at 26-16 before freshman Christina Falcone served four straight near the end of the match to get the win.
