
Blue Devils Roll to Third Straight ACC Victory

DURHAM, N.C. ? The Duke volleyball team picked up its third straight ACC victory Friday night with a 3-0 win over N.C. State in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Blue Devils improve to 9-3 overall and 3-1 in the ACC while the Wolfpack fall to 6-5 and 0-3 in the league.
Duke swept N.C. State 30-24, 30-17, 30-26, picking up their ninth straight win over the Wolfpack.
“I'm excited that we were able to play well at home tonight,” stated Duke Head Coach Jolene Nagel. “We were able to get up again for this match after such an emotional and lengthy match from last night. I was really pleased that we were able to put it together, play well and play the way we are capable of playing.”
Sophomore Ali Hausfeld paced the Blue Devil offense with 47 assists in the win, surpassing the 2,000-assist mark for her career. Hausfeld now has 2,015 career assists at Duke. Junior Tealle Hunkus led the offensive attack with 17 kills on the night. Freshman Jourdan Norman posted nine kills, freshman Susanna Carls notched a career-high seven kills, senior Tiffany Perry had six kills and senior Samantha Fisher, junior Pixie Levanas and Hausfeld each added five kills for the Blue Devils.
After posting a career-high 37 digs against North Carolina last night, sophomore Jenny Shull had another stellar performance for Duke, recording 27 digs in the match. Junior Polly Bendush added seven digs, Hunkus and senior Sarah Salem each had six digs and sophomore Carrie DeMange picked up five digs. Norman led the Blue Devils with eight blocks while Hausfeld chipped in four blocks in the win.
“I felt a lot of people took advantage of the opportunity when they got a chance to play tonight,” Nagel said. “I didn't feel like we skipped a beat at all and I was really pleased with everyone's performance.”
Duke will look for its fourth straight ACC victory when they host Wake Forest on Tuesday, October 4 at 7:00 p.m. in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Blue Devils then hit the road for four matches at Virginia, Virginia Tech, Boston College and Maryland October 7-16.

Catch Duke's 3-1 victory over Georgia Tech on Fox Sports Net South, Sunday October 2 at 4:30 p.m. The victory over the Yellow Jackets came last Saturday in Atlanta, Ga., when the Blue Devils picked up their first ACC win of the 2005 season. The Blue Devil win marked the first conference loss in O'Keefe Gymnasium since the 2002 season for the Yellow Jackets.
