DURHAM, N.C. ? All-America distance runner Shannon Rowbury of the Duke cross country team has been named the Ronald McDonald House Charities Student-Athlete of the Week by the Duke Radio Network.
Rowbury, a senior from San Francisco, won the Race of Champions at last week's Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, N.C., with a time of 16 minutes, 40 seconds over the 5-kilometer course. She finished nearly 10 seconds ahead of teammate and runnerup Clara Horowitz. Rowbury's performance helped set a dominating tone for the No. 1-ranked Blue Devils, who had seven of the top 10 finishers to claim the team title.
It marked the second straight year that Rowbury won the individual crown at the Great American. Last year she also earned All-America honors in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track, was an ACC champion in three events, was named the ACC MVP in indoor track and helped the Blue Devils win their first ACC cross country championship.
