- No. 7 Duke played to a draw with Virginia Tech in their second double overtime game in three days. The Blue Devils rallied from a goal down in the final two minutes with a man down to tie the game and force overtime.
The Blue Devils scored the first goal of the contest three minutes into the game. Mike Grella made a move on the end line and found Blake Camp who made a sliding shot for the goal. The assist gave Grella a team-high with four while Spencer Wadsworth sent the pass to Grella for his third assist of the season.
Virginia Tech tied the game in the 64th minute after a foul was called on Duke in the goal box. Magnus Einarsson took the penalty kick and sent the shot to the left past Duke goalkeeper Justin Papadakis. The Hokies gained their first lead of the game in the 58th minute when a ball was sent in and was headed towards the net by a Blue Devils defender. The ball went off the fists of Papadakis and bounced off the right post into the left corner of the net for the go-ahead goal.
It was the second straight double overtime game for the Blue Devils and first tie of the year. Virginia Tech has now played four straight double overtime contests to come up with three ties, including two in ACC play.
Papadakis finished the game with three saves while Hokies' goalkeeper Chase Harrison had five. Duke held a 15-11 advantage in total shots.
