Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski
“It was really good for us to get out. It's really like our eighth practice. I thought that all the kids were excited to play, and it's good to see, especially the freshmen in front of a crowd. It seemed like all of them, all five of them, were pretty excited, and they all did some good things. There wasn't any nervousness or anything like that. I was pleased.”
“We didn't try to overcoach them. We just kind of let them play today, so it's not like even for J.J. [Redick] we were calling a lot of stuff. He still got 27 points on 10 shots ? that's pretty efficient ? and seven assists and only one turnover. He's really playing at a high level.
“I think Shelden [Wiliams] is still rounding into shape, with the stress fracture. Although he did well, he'll play a lot better. Part of it is getting into good shape. I thought DeMarcus was really solid. His role, you can see the improvement in him. He's a different player.”
“The team in white [in the first half] would've been the team that I would've started if we'd played a game today. What you'll see when we have all the kids together is more subbing to keep us fresh. Lee [Melchionni], you can basically count him as a starter, and Greg [Paulus] will be there. I like the fact that Marty [Pocius] and Eric [Boateng] and Jamal [Boykin], they can give you minutes. We should have a fresh team on the court at all times.”
