Coming off a 1-2 start to the 2004 season, the Blue Devils travel to Buies Creek, N.C. Tuesday for a mid-week match with Campbell.
Series Notes
Duke leads the all-time series 3-0 and returns to Carter Gym for the first time since Oct. 11, 1999, when they won in three games, 15-2, 15-12 and 15-1.
The last time these two programs met was on Sept. 21, 2002 at the Blue Devil Invitational. Duke won the match in three games with scores of 30-10, 30-19 and 30-14. Six current Blue Devils played in that contest, all making significant contributions
Tassy Rufai led Duke with 11 kills and a .625 hitting percentage. Tiffany Perry added five kills, hitting .500. Erin Noble tallied five service aces and a match-high 12 digs, while Samantha Fisher recorded a match-high four block assists. Fourteen Blue Devil players saw action in the match, including four freshmen.
Junior Alissa Brackeen is the only current member of the Camel squad to have played in that game. She posted 21 assists and three digs in the loss.
Duke Notes
The Blue Devils enter Tuesday's match with a 1-2 record after defeating Villanova 3-0 and falling to No. 18 Loyola Marymount and Tennessee in the LMU/Four Points Sheraton Volleyball Classic over the weekend.
Carrie DeMange and Rufai lead Duke offensively with 46 and 37 kills, respectively, while Ali Hausfeld earned 130 assists and an all-tournament team nod in her first matches as a collegian.
Istvan led the Blue Devil's defensive effort, coming up with 51 digs (5.10/game) in the three matches.
Scouting Campbell
The Camels enter the match with a 1-2 overall record after dropping matches to Texas A&M- Corpus Christi and Navy and picking up a win over Savannah State at the A&T Aggie Classic over the weekend
Sophomores Tabitha Turner and Sarah Dillon earned all-tournament honors after their remarkable performances. Turner totaled 45 kills, including a career-high 23 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, while Dillon handed out 113 assists.
Campbell out-hit their opponents .249-to-.205 in the first three matches of the season, averaging 11.5 kills per game as a team. Defensively, the Camels picked up almost 10 digs per game and 23.0 total blocks to just 10.0 for their opponents.
Junior Crystal Sieber, a transfer from Blinn College, led the defense in the Aggie Classic, posting 50 digs in three matches for an average of 3.85 per game.
