ACC Indoor Championships Site
DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke men's and women's indoor track and field teams will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 21 and 22, to compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships. The meet will take place at the Dick Taylor Track in the Eddie Smith Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of North Carolina with events starting at 11:00 a.m. on Friday and 10:00 a.m. Saturday.
The Duke women are looking to improve on their ninth place finish at the 2002 ACC Championships, while the men are looking to finish higher than their seventh place finish last season.
The Blue Devils enter the meet with several runners listed in the top 10 of the ACC leaders. Leading the way for the men is pole vaulter Brent Warner who has the best jump by almost seven feet in the ACC. Nick Schneider is fifth in the mile run and Donny Fowler is eighth in the 800 meter dash. Michael Hatch and Jared Moore have the fourth and seventh best times, respectively, in the 3,000 meter run. The men's distance medley relay team of Fowler, Steve Craig, Jon Amt and Schneider have the second fastest time in the ACC this season.
Jenna Turner has the women's third fastest time in the ACC in the 400 meter dash after breaking Duke's school record last weekend at the Armory Collegiate Invitational. The women's distance medley relay team, featuring Lauren Matic, Janay McKie, Kristen Doody and Shannon Rowbury, owns the second best time in the ACC. Matic owns the fourth fastest time in the 800 meter dash and Doody is eighth in the event. Rowbury is third in the mile run and fourth in the 3,000 meter run. Phebe Ko has the fourth best time in the 5,000 meter run, Clara Horowitz owns the seventh fastest time in the 3,000 meter run and Meaghan Leon is eighth in the mile run. McKie is ninth in the 60 meter dash and Allison Nesbitt is eighth in the 60 meter hurdles. Laura Chen and Kristie Howard are seventh and eighth, respectively, in the pole vault.
