Clemson Defeats Duke 4-0 in ACC Men's Soccer

CLEMSON, SC-Dimelon Westfield had one goal and one assist in leading Clemson to a 4-0 win over Duke in an Atlantic Coast Conference men's soccer match at Clemson, SC Wednesday night.
This was the largest win over Duke for the Tigers since September 25, 1988 when former Tiger Richie Richmond had a hat trick and led Clemson to a 4-0 win over the third-ranked Blue Devils in Durham, NC.
The Tigers improve to 13-4 overall, 3-2 in the ACC. Duke falls to 8-10 overall, 2-4 in the ACC. The Tigers are ranked 10th by Soccer America and soccertimes.com poll and 13th in the NSCAA listing.
Clemson scored first at the 7:14 mark as Dimelon Westfield stole the ball from a Duke defender that created a one-on-one situation with Duke goalkeeper Justin Trowbridge. Westfield shot from 12 yards out went into the middle of the goal.
Ross Goodacre scored the second Clemson goal at the 34:23 mark. Oguchi Onyeawu sent the ball down the field on the right side. A Duke defender miscleared the ball and Westfield picked up the loose ball. Westfield crossed the ball to Goodacre who sent the ball from 18 yards out to the right corner of the goal.
The Tigers added their third goal of the night as Chase Hilgenbrinck took a pass from Steven Rhyne on the left flank. Hilgenbrinck beat the Blue Devil goalkeeper and sent a shot into the right corner of the net for his first career goal
Fabio Tambosi connected with Andre Borges for Clemson's fourth and final goal of the match.
Clemson will play host to Wake Forest in another ACC match Saturday evening at 5:00 p.m. in the Tigers' next action, while Duke will next play in the ACC Tournament from Nov. 15-18 in Clemson, S.C.
