ANNAPOLIS, Md. (April 20) - Naval Academy head basketball coach Don DeVoe announced today that assistant coach Mark Alarie has resigned. Alarie plans to reenter the business world after a one year hiatus in coaching.
"Before joining the Navy basketball staff I had my sights set on eventually becoming a Division I head coach. After the season I felt differently about achieving that goal," said Alarie. "It may seem like I am giving up on my dream early, but in my heart I didn't feel like I was cut out to be a head coach. I had a great time in my one season at Navy. We had a terrific season and I had an opportunity to work with a great staff. I was honored to have the opportunity to represent an institution like the Naval Academy."
"Mark has made a professional decision to return to the business world and we wish him the best of luck," said DeVoe. "He did a great job in his one year, but unfortunately coaching wasn't for him."
Alarie was the Vice President for the Institutional Equity Sales and Trading Division at Alex Brown in Baltimore before joining the Navy staff last spring.
