Two Duke Volleyball Players Earn All ACC Honors

Philipp selected Second Team All-ACC, Sonne named to All-Freshman team
GREENSBORO, N.C. (November 18) -- Two Duke volleyball players- senior Dominique Philipp and freshman Jill Sonne- earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors Thursday. Philipp was selected to the All-ACC second team while Sonne earned All-Freshman team honors.
ACC honor teams are voted upon by the conference's nine volleyball coaches.
Philipp (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep) earned all conference honors for the first time in her career. She enters the ACC Tournament leading Duke in kills per game (3.78) and digs (244). Philipp is hitting .239 (348-132-902) on the season and averaging 2.65 blocks per game. Sonne (LaMesa, Calif./West Hills) was twice named the ACC Freshman of the Week. She has 266 kills on the season (2.86 kills per game) and 240 digs (2.58 kills per game).
Clemson's Cindy Stern was named the 1999 ACC Player of the Year, Clemson's Jessi Betcher was voted the 1999 ACC Rookie of the Year and Wake Forest's Mary Buczek was selected 1999 ACC Coach of the Year. Duke (13-13/7-9 ACC) opens ACC Tournament play tomorrow in Orlando, Fla. against Virginia at 2 p.m. The Blue Devils come in as the No. 5 seed.
