Duke (14-0-3) advances to the championship game for the second straight year in hopes of picking up their first ever ACC Tournament crown. The Blue Devils are the #1 seed in the tournament and will take on Virginia (12-7-1) in the championship game on Sunday at 3:30 PM. Virginia defeated Wake Forest 2-1 on Friday and defeated Maryland on Thursday (2-0) to advance to the finals.
Garner got things rolling in the second half with a goal in the 52nd minute of play after the two teams battled to a 0-0 score at halftime. Then three minutes later Garner found the back of the net off a rebound of his own shot to put Duke up 2-0.
The two teams went at it for 20 more minutes before freshman Donald McIntosh pounded a shot from 25 yards out that hit the top left corner of the net for his fourth goal of the season (Garner assist). Two minutes later he scored his second goal of the game with assists by Garner and Peter Gail.
With Garner's six points on the night it moves him into tied for ninth on Duke's all-time career points list (95 points).
Earlier this season Duke hosted Virginia and shut them out 3-0. Virginia leads the overall series 29-27-7, but Duke has won the past two meetings in a row.
