Hired as Trinity’s director of physical training, James J. Baldwin coached the varsity basketball, football and baseball teams. An Ivy League product and former coach at Rhode Island State and Maine, Baldwin in 1921 guided the baseball team to a record of 10–9–1 and the football team to a record of 6–1–2, and then the 1922 basketball squad to a record of 6–12 in his only season at the helm. He later coached the Lehigh football team and the Wake Forest basketball team for two years, 1927–28.
