Upcoming Event: Women's Tennis at Kitty Harrison Invitational on September 12, 2025

In his fourth season at Duke, assistant coach Eric Filipek has already made a name for himself as one of the best young hitting instructors and recruiting coordinators in the country.
As the Blue Devils’ recruiting coordinator, Filipek has gone out nationally to bring Duke its best-potential classes to date the last three years. The class of 2004, Filipek’s first recruiting class, has nine representatives from nine different states. Both the class of 2005 and the class of 2006 were recognized nationally by Baseball America following the initial signing period, as they were ranked 17th and 18th in the country, respectively. And the class of 2007 may be Duke’s best ever.
Filipek begins his ninth year in association with Duke head coach Bill Hillier. He played for Hillier at UNC Asheville from 1995-96, served as an undergraduate assistant for the Bulldogs during the 1997 season and was promoted to assistant coach in 1998.
As UNC Asheville’s hitting instructor, Filipek helped Bulldog hitters set team records in batting, home runs, doubles, hits, RBIs and runs scored in 1998. In addition, nine players batted over .300. Filipek’s last two recruiting classes at Asheville produced conference Freshman of the Year winners as well as a TPX Freshman All-America selection.
Filipek enjoyed an outstanding collegiate career at UNC Asheville. He was a two-time first-team all-conference performer (1994 and 1995) and concluded his career with a .324 batting average, 21 home runs and 120 runs batted in. Filipek hit better than .300 in three of his seasons for the Bulldogs. His best season was in 1994 when he led the Bulldogs in batting average (.371), home runs (7) and RBIs (42). He concluded his career among the top five players in career stats in hitting, home runs (21), RBIs (120) and at-bats (630). A team captain as a junior and senior, Filipek was selected the athletic department’s Male Athlete of the Year in 1994.
The Bellmawr, N.J., native enjoyed a standout prep career at Gloucester Catholic High School. He lettered in baseball four years and was an All-State selection after his senior year when he set a state record for runs batted in with 62. In addition, Filipek was an All-Region honoree in both his junior and senior years. He also lettered three years in football and two years in basketball.
Filipek made his debut as a manager when he guided the Brooklawn, N.J., Junior Legion Post 72 team to a regional title in 1996. His Brooklawn team advanced to the national tournament, where they finished in third place. A 1997 graduate of UNC Asheville with a degree in business management and administration, Filipek resides in Durham.
