Upcoming Event: Track & Field versus Duke Invitational on April 8, 2026

Lynda Blutreich has been as assistant track & field coach at Duke since 1998-99 with primary duties centering on the Blue Devil throwing events.
In just six years at Duke, Blutreich has coached athletes that have altered the all-time lists in nearly all throwing events. In 2005, she guided freshmen Daina Pucurs to All-ACC honors in the javelin throw, as Pucurs raised the school record four times, out to 150-8. Sophomores Beth Maher and Kelly Reynolds, like Pucurs, qualified for the NCAA East Regional in their respective events, the first time in school history three Blue Devils made the regional meet in the same year. Maher was a scorer in the ACC javelin and ranks second on Duke’s all-time list in that event. Reynolds was an All-ACC and All-East selection in the hammer throw, raising the school record to 180-5.
A three-time All-America selection and six-time ACC champion at UNC, Blutreich won ACC outdoor titles in the shot put and the javelin and was second in the discus in 1993. Blutreich set an ACC record in the discus with a mark of 181-0 and was an All-America in the javelin after placing sixth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Blutreich participated in the 2000 Olympics and the 1997 and 1999 Pan American Games, where she placed fifth in the javelin. She is a two-time member of the United States World Championships squad (1995 and 1999). She finished third at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Atlanta in 1996 and won the 1997 and 1999 U.S. National Championships in the javelin. She has a personal best of 199-6 in the javelin and is the former American record holder.
Blutreich graduated from North Carolina in 1993 with a degree in physical education. The former Lynda Lipson is married to current UNC assistant track and field coach Brian Blutreich. The couple have two daughters, Brooke Alexandra (3), and Logan Kate, who was born in April 2004. The family resides in Durham.
