A former All-ACC rower at North Carolina, Julie Domina comes to Duke after a two-year stint at Tulsa where she served as the head novice coach and assistant varsity coach for the Golden Hurricane. She also assisted with the program’s recruiting, team academics and community service programs.
Domina’s coaching career began at Ithaca College where she served as the head novice coach during the 2005-06 campaign. Under her guidance, Ithaca’s novice squad went 8-2 during the regular season and 12-3 in the postseason with a New York State Championship. Ithaca’s second novice squad went 5-1 during the year and 5-3 in postseason racing.
Before joining the coaching ranks, Domina was a three-year letterwinner at North Carolina from 2001-05. In addition to receiving Rowing Rookie of the Year honors in 2002, Domina was named All-ACC and team MVP during her senior season. She served as a team captain during her junior and senior campaigns and helped the Tar Heels’ varsity eight earn ACC Crew of the Week honors and the ACC Sportsmanship Award in 2004.
She also excelled in the classroom, appearing on the Dean’s list for five semesters and on the ACC Academic Honor Roll during all four years. During her senior year, Domina was awarded the UNC Athletic Director’s Scholar-Athlete Award and was named a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National Rowing Scholar-Athlete.
A native of Cary, N.C., Domina earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina in Sports Administration in 2005 and a master’s degree from Ithaca College in Sports Psychology in 2006. She also holds a US Rowing Level II Coaching Certificate.
