GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Atlantic Coast Conference 50th Anniversary Men's Outdoor Track & Field Team was announced today by Commissioner John Swofford. The 52-member team was voted on by the nine league institutions as decided by the league's 50th Anniversary Committee.
Clemson led all league schools with nine members on the Golden Anniversary team while Georgia Tech, Maryland and North Carolina were tied for second with eight honorees each. Duke had five players selected, followed by NC State and Virginia with four apiece and Florida State and Wake Forest with three.
Duke's five former outdoor track stars to make the team are Robbie Perkins, Joel Shankle, Dave Sime, Cary Weisiger and Bob Wheeler.

Derrick Adkins, Georgia Tech (1989-1992)
1996 Olympic gold medalist in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles ... four-time All-American and a four-time ACC champion in that event ... a six-time All-Conference selection and was named the ACC Outdoor MVP in 1991 ... has also competed in multiple world championships and the 1998 Goodwill Games.
Joe Allen, Florida State (2000-2001)
2000 and 2001 Outdoor ACC Champion in the long jump ... 2001 ACC Outdoor triple jump Champion ... 2001 ACC Outdoor Meet Most Outstanding Performer following first place finishes in the long and triple jump and earned NCAA provisional qualifying mark (long jump) at FSU Relays ... named ACC outdoor event MVP during senior season ... earned All-ACC honors in 2000 and 2001.
Nick Basciano, Maryland (1974-1976)
Won three consecutive ACC titles in 100-yard/100-meter run (1974-76) and in the 220-yard/200-meter runs (1974-76) ... Awarded ACC Outstanding Performer of the 1976 ACC Championships (formerly the Fetzer Award) ... Member of three ACC Champion teams (1974, 1975, 1976) ... Third in Maryland history in 100-meters with a time of 10.38 (1974); also in the school's top five in the 200 meters.
Jim Beatty, North Carolina (1954-1957)
All-American in the two-miles in 1955 and 1957 and for the 5,000 meters in 1956 ... ACC champion in the mile in 1955 and 1956 ... Won the James A. Sullivan award as the nation's top amateur athlete in 1962, the same year he set world records for the mile, two miles, 1,500m and 5,000m.
Eric Bishop, North Carolina (1996-1998)
1996 NCAA champion in the outdoor high jump ... All-American in the outdoor high jump in 1996 ... ACC champion in the outdoor high jump 1997.
Andy Bloom, Wake Forest (1992, 1994-1996)
Two-time National Champion, winning 1996 Shot Put and Discus Throw ... Four-time All-American, earning honors in Shot Put and Discus two years each ...
