DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke fencing team received its second signee for the 2019-20 recruiting class as saberist Zsofia Walter signed her National Letter of Intent (NLI) to compete for the Blue Devils.
Walter comes to Durham from Tampa, Fla., and currently attends Plant High School and is a member of the Stoccata Fencing Academy under David Lloyd.
Throughout the years, Walter has competed in several North American Cups (NAC) including a top-eight performance at a Division II NAC in 2016, a top-32 finish at a Division I NAC in 2017 and an additional top-32 showing at a 2016 Junior NAC.
Outside of fencing, Walter is a tutor for her school’s Beta Honors Society.
Walter will see a familiar face on the strips upon her arrival to Durham as her older brother, Agoston Walter, is a junior on the Duke men’s saber team.
Duke will open the 2019 slate Sunday, Jan. 13, with the Penn State Duals in State College, Pa.
