DURHAM, N.C. – Head coach Megan Cooke Carcagno and the Duke rowing program are excited to announce the addition of Maya Blake. Blake is a senior at Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, N.H.
A member of the Thompson Boat Center, Blake has rowed at the 2015 club nationals and earned second place with her U17 8+ crew. The same boat also took second at the 2015 Canadian Henley event.
"Maya Blake has been successful on the basketball court and in the boat," assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Chase Graham said. "We love her multi-sport background as both disciplines require a high level of teamwork to be successful. Maya had such a passion for Duke when she stepped onto campus. We are thrilled about that. We can’t wait to have her join us this fall."
While with Exeter Academy, Blake helped her boat to a pair of New England Interscholastic Rowing Association Championships. The program finished fifth as a sophomore and rose to second as a junior. Blake was also a member of the girls' varsity basketball program as a sophomore, when the squad captured with New England Elite Eight championship.
"I chose Duke because the second I stepped on campus, I could tell the student body was passionate about education and also about the school itself," Blake said. "There is a great amount of spirit on the campus that is almost tangible. I feel like I will be able to feed off that spirit to improve as an athlete, a student and help add to the student body."
Outside of rowing, Blake is a writer for the school newspaper and has earned highest honors and high honors for her academic achievements. She is also involved with Support the Troops.
