Men’s Basketball
• Jahlil Okafor was named both the ACC Player of the Year and the conference’s Freshman of the Year by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA), the league office announced Sunday. Okafor became the first freshman in ACC history to earn player of the year honors.
• Jahlil Okafor is the eighth Duke freshman to garner league rookie of the year honors, and the second in as many years after former Blue Devil Jabari Parker earned the same accolade last season.
• A Blue Devil has been named ACC Player of the Year in seven of the last 16 years (Elton Brand-1999, Chris Carrawell-2000, Shane Battier-2001, J.J. Redick-2005, J.J. Redick-2006, Nolan Smith-2011, Jahlil Okafor-2015).
• Quinn Cook moved into 30th on Duke’s all-time scorers list with 1,468 career points.
• Tyus Jones set a Duke freshman record after converting all 12 of his free throw attempts in the 84-77 win over North Carolina. J.J. Redick and Jon Scheyer previously held the freshman record of 11 made free throws without a miss in a contest. Jones’ perfect effort from the line marks the fourth game this season he made seven or more free throws without a miss.
• Tyus Jones became the first player in Duke history to score at least 20 points and dish out seven assists in each of his first two games against North Carolina.
Women’s Basketball
Senior Elizabeth Williams
• Became the first player in league history to be named ACC Defensive Player of the Year four times.
• Was selected First Team All-ACC for the fourth consecutive year, marking only the second player in league history to receive the honor on four occasions (Alana Beard of Duke).
• Is just the second Blue Devil to receive the Kay Yow Award as the ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year (Jasmine Thomas – 2010 & 2011).
• Finished her career with 33 ACC Tournament blocks to rank second all-time in the ACC Tournament record books.
• Pulled down 84 career rebounds in the ACC Tournament to rank first on the Duke charts in tournament play.
• With her four defensive rebounds against Notre Dame, moved into a tie for fifth place on the Duke career defensive rebounds list with 566.
• Is now 20 blocks away from breaking the ACC record for career blocked shots (Alison Bales, 434).
• Pulled down eight rebounds in the ACC Tournament semifinals to move into 18th place on the ACC career rebounds list with 1,048.
• Collected seven field goals made against Notre Dame to move into a tie for 22nd place on the ACC career field goals made list with 776.
• Attempted 17 field goals in the last game to move into 21st place on the ACC field goals attempted list with 1,541.
• Totaled her 10th double-double of the season and 29th of her career versus Wake Forest in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals.
• With her 108 games scoring double-figures, moved into sole possession of third overall on the Duke charts.
Freshman Azurá Stevens
• Registered double-digit scoring for the 25th time this season against Notre Dame in the ACC Tournament to rank fifth on the Duke freshman charts.
• Has now played 846 minutes to rank tied for ninth on the Duke freshman season record books.
• Moved into fifth on the Duke freshman field goals attempted list with 341.
• Totaled her ninth double-double of the season and her fifth out of the last seven games versus Wake Forest in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals.
• Her nine double-doubles is tied for second on the Duke freshman charts along with Monique Currie.
• With 175 field goals made, moved into fourth place on the Duke freshman field goals made list.
• Moved into third place on the Duke freshman rebounds list with 249 boards.
Redshirt Freshman Rebecca Greenwell
• Now owns a Duke freshman-record 62 three-pointers made on the season.
• Has played in 1,059 minutes this season to rank second on the Duke freshman charts.
• Her 62 three-point field goals made this season now ranks sixth on the ACC single-season freshman list.
• Pulled down 175 rebounds on the year to rank eighth on the Duke freshman list.
• Has attempted 365 field goals on the season to rank third on the Duke single-season freshman list.
• Has scored double-figures in 26 games this season to rank tied for second on the Duke freshman list.
• Has attempted 181 three-pointers on the season to rank tied for fourth on the ACC single-season freshman list.
• Has made 143 field goals on the season to rank seventh on the Blue Devil freshman charts.
• Grabbed 130 defensive rebounds on the season to rank fifth on the Duke freshman charts.
Baseball
• Andy Perez stole two bases this weekend to move into a tie for fifth all time in program history with 57 career stolen bases.
Women’s Golf
• Freshman Leona Maguire collected her first collegiate victory Sunday at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. She fired a tournament-record round of 65 in the second round to jump into the individual lead at the Long Cove Club in Hilton Head, S.C.
• As a team, Duke shot a tournament-record 282 in the final round to close the weekend with a 54-hole tournament record, 858, at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. It was four strokes better than the Blue Devils’ ledger from a year ago.
• Sunday’s victory was the 121st of Blue Devil head coach Dan Brooks’ career, which continues to be the most wins in Division I women’s golf history.
Men’s Lacrosse
• Duke Ties Program Record for Consecutive Home Wins
The Blue Devils outscored No. 12 Loyola 7-0 in the final 27:17 to beat the Greyhounds 14-8 Saturday afternoon. The win was the 21st consecutive home victory for the Blue Devils, dating back to a 9-8 victory over Loyola March 8, 2013. The streak ties the 21-game stretch from March 30, 2007 through Feb. 20, 2009. Duke’s last loss at home was a 16-7 setback to Maryland March 2, 2013.
• Myles Jones Nearing Jim Gonnella’s Mark
With four goals and an assist for five points, junior midfielder Myles Jones moved to 33rd on the Duke all-time scoring list and 25 points shy of passing top midfield scorer Jim Gonnella. Jones has at least three goals in six of the seven games and has at least four points in all seven games this season.
• Deemer Class Passes Lawson on Scoring Chart
Junior midfielder Deemer Class scored four goals and added an assist to up his career points total to 109. The five points pushed him past All-American David Lawson for the 36th spot in Duke scoring history.
Women’s Lacrosse
• Senior Kerrin Maurer reached the 100-assist mark for her career in Friday’s 15-10 victory over Virginia Tech. She joins former Blue Devil standout and assistant coach Kristen Waagbo (116 career assists) as the only players in program history to achieve the milestone. Maurer’s 100 career assists also rank her 13th in ACC history.
Men’s Tennis
• Duke’s 13-2 overall record is tied for the best 15-match mark in program history. The 1951, 1975, 1977, 1988, 2005 and 2012 squads all began the campaign 13-2.
• Sunday in doubles, freshman Nicolas Alvarez and senior Raphael Hemmeler defeated Andreas Bjerrehus and Amerigo Contini, 8-5, to help Duke clinch the doubles point. The victory was Hemmeler’s 108th of his doubles career, just one shy of tying Jordan Wile (1996-99) for fifth on the Duke all-time chart. The triumph was also the 25th of Hemmeler’s career in ACC doubles, tied for the eighth most in program history.
Women’s Tennis
• Senior Ester Goldfeld moved within three singles wins of becoming the 24th player in Duke history to reach the 100-win plateau after posting a 2-0 mark over the weekend. Goldfeld opened a four-match road stretch with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 victory over 71st-ranked Jessica Wacnik of No. 45 Boston College before defeating Syracuse’s Valeria Salazar, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 2 position on Sunday.
Wrestling
• The Duke wrestling team, under the guidance of third-year head coach Glen Lanham, garnered four NCAA Championship berths at the ACC Championship Sunday. Mitch Finesilver (133), Marcus Cain (149), Jacob Kasper (184) and Conner Hartmann (197) each won an automatic qualifying spot with their performances at the conference championship. The four bids are tied for the most in program history, while Immanuel Kerr-Brown awaits word on an at-large berth to make it a record five.
