DURHAM, N.C.- The Duke fencing team is preparing for competition at the Northwestern Duals which is set to take place this weekend, February 4th and 5th. Recently, GoDuke.com sat down with senior epee fencer Jonathan Parker to learn more about the Austin, Texas native.
GoDuke.com: What embarrassing music do you have on your iPod?
Jonathan Parker: Everyone always makes fun of me because I'm a huge country music fan. I am one of the few people from Texas so I love The Band Perry.
GoDuke.com: Do you have any superstitions/ pre-game rituals? If so, what are they?
JP: I always step on the strip with my right foot first. If I don't I freak out and have to step back off the strip and do it right again.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite class at Duke?
JP: I am taking a Sports Media class with a couple of other seniors right now. It's not particularly difficult to say the least but it's good to just hang out and talk about sports for an hour and a half.
GoDuke.com: What has been your toughest class at Duke?
JP: First semester freshman year I thought I was going to come in here and be a math major. I took one of the easiest math classes at Duke and got a D on it so...Math 25.
GoDuke.com: Who would be your dream date?
JP: Katy Perry
GoDuke.com: Describe your coach in one word?
JP: Fantastic.
GoDuke.com: What was your first car?
JP: Mazda 626, 1993. I totaled it.
GoDuke.com: What's your worst habit?
JP: I procrastinate a lot. I wait until the last second to do everything.
GoDuke.com: iPhone, Blackberry or Droid?
JP: Droid.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite restaurant in Durham?
JP: Sushi Love.
