DURHAM, N.C. - GoDuke.com sat down with freshman safety Garett Patterson on Tuesday morning to discuss what was a win-win situation for him and what talent he has.
Garett Patterson Q&A
GoDuke.com: Why Did You Choose Duke?
Garett Patterson: Duke is a win-win opportunity. There is a great football program on the rise and there is no place like it with the academics. With a good education you can get any job you want if you put your mind to it. It was a win-win on both sides - sports and academics.
GD: Any Brothers or Sisters?
GP: I have an older brother, younger brother and younger sister. My younger brother just started high school back home and my younger sister will be in fifth grade. My older brother is out of high school.
GD: What number did you wear in high school?
GP: No. 17 ... One of my favorite players was Randy Moss and I couldn't get his number so I went one below it. I am No. 24 now and I like it because one of my best friends wore the number in high school. It was his family number. Since he is close to me I felt it was a great opportunity to have his number.
GD: What sport would you play besides football?
GP: Other than football it would be basketball. My first love was soccer but I would say basketball now.
GD: What was your favorite NFL team and player growing up?
GP: My favorite NFL team is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and my favorite player growing up was Ed Reed.
GD: What websites do you visit most?
GP: Facebook and rivals.com.
GD: What do you like to do outside of football?
GP: Sometimes I just like to sit down and relax and read interesting novels. I like to catch up on what is going on around the world with current events. I like to watch the news, go to the movies, hang out with friends and play video games every once in awhile.
GD: Who is your roommate this year?
GP: Corey Gattis
GD: After football what job would you like to have?
GP: I am looking at a job in the IT field. Going into Pre-Med also looks good.
GD: What is your best talent?
GP: I can jump really high. My vertical is 39 inches.
