DURHAM, N.C. -- Junior attacker/midfielder Carolyn Davis was chosen as one of the 18 nominees for the eighth annual Tewaaraton Trophy. The award is given to the nation’s top female varsity collegiate lacrosse player in the United States. From the 18 nominees, five finalists will be chosen and a winner will be selected at the Tewaaraton Awards Banquet on May 29 in Washington, D.C.
Davis has been outstanding for the Blue Devils this season, especially considering she was cleared to play just a week before the season opener after spending the off-season rehabilitating from a torn ACL that she suffered in the final game of the 2007 campaign. The native of Skaneateles, N.Y., leads Duke with 39 goals, 52 points and 93 shots and is third on the team with 13 assists. Those numbers rank second, third and first in the ACC, respectively. Davis has also picked up 19 ground balls, grabbed 16 draw controls and caused nine turnovers. She was the ACC Player of the Week on Feb. 18 and March 4, the Womenslax.com and Womenslacrosse.com Player of the Week on Feb. 18 and named to the Womenslacrosse.com Weekly Honor Roll on March 4.
