ONEONTA, NY (August 28, 2006) ? National Team and professional league stars Alexi Lalas and Carla Overbeck, Veteran Al Trost, and Builder Philip Anschutz joined the soccer legends today at Induction 2006. The four members of the Class of 2006 join the 260 previous inducted soccer players and builders who have been elected to the Hall of Fame.
Lalas, presented for induction by U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati, is the 5th member of the 1994 U.S. World Cup team to be elected to the Hall.
Overbeck, a 2-time World Champions and an Olympic Gold and Silver Medalist, joins four teammates form the 1991 U. S. Women’s Team that won FIFA’s first Women’s World Cup. She was presented by the coach of the 1999 Championship side,Tony DICicco.
Trost, a 2-time winner of the Hermann Trophy as the top player in collegiate soccer, went on to become a North American Soccer League All-Star and captain of the U.S. National Team in the 70s. Trost was introduced by noted soccer broadcaster and
Anschutz, one of the most creative visionaries in soccer today, received the National Soccer Medal of Honor at the President’s Dinner on Sunday evening in addition to being inducted into the Hall of Fame. Chris Henderson of the New York Red Bulls made the Anschutz introduction.

Al Trost:
When I was young and playing in the yard my Dad was upset with me, “Al,” he said “you are killing the rose bushes!” I had to agree with him.
In playing throughout my career I learned that a team needs to work together as a group to be successful as an individual.
We are responsible. We can choose whether to serve or be served, whether to be selfish or selfless. We need to share our ability with the team so everyone will benefit form out hard labor.

My generation of players may get a little too much credit for the recent success of soccer. On behalf of my generation, I thank the Hall of Famers who have gone before me.
I was not the best player, but I knew what I was good at. Most of all, it was my passion for the game and my teammates that made me look good.
I love putting on a show. I must thank the fans for being there because, whether they were cheering me or picking on me, they pushed me to perform and are a critical part of this game. Thank you fans!

Carla set the standard for our team, No one wanted to deal with her when she was angry and she got angry when you didn’t play full out.
As Captain she was determined to make the team a family and, because of it, we were a better team.
