DURHAM, N.C. - Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski announced that senior forward Reggie Love was named a team captain for the remainder of the 2004-05 season, the 100th in the history of Duke basketball. Love will join senior guard Daniel Ewing and junior guard J.J. Redick as captains for the seventh-ranked Blue Devils (18-4, 8-4 ACC).
"Reggie deserves this honor," said Krzyzewski. "He's been a great leader for us throughout the entire season, especially during the time he was rehabilitating from his foot injury. He's stayed positive throughout that process and brings maturity to our team. It is not something we've given to him. It is something he's earned."
Love, who was a four-time football letterwinner at Duke from 2000-03, has seen action in 10 games this season (one start). He is averaging 2.0 points and 2.6 rebounds in 10.7 minutes of action. Love's field goal percentage is an impressive .588 (10-of-17) this season. The Charlotte, N.C., native broke the fifth metatarsal in his right foot on the night of his first career start vs. Clemson on Jan. 2 and missed 12 games during his rehabilitation. Love returned to action on Feb. 17 at Virginia Tech, recording two points, four rebounds and one blocked shot in 19 minutes of action.
