BOSTON, Mass. - Debra Vento opened competition at the annual Terrier Classic with a school record-breaking performance in the high jump, leaping to an impressive 5'11.5" (1.82 meters) to finish first in the competition and earn an NCAA Provisional mark. Many outstanding performances followed, as the meet, hosted by snow-covered Boston University, wrapped up the first day of competition.
Paige Miller also received an NCAA Provisional time, coming in second in the 5,000-meter run in 16:24.45. Laura Stanley (sixth), Natasha Roetter (ninth) and Lindsay Van Alstine (10th) rounding out the top 10 in the event, all earning automatic ECAC qualifying times.
Shannon Rowbury and Sally Meyerhoff finished second and sixth, respectively, in the 3,000-meter race, both earning provisional marks for the NCAA Championships. Clara Horowitz and Phebe Ko also participated in the event and finished with ECAC qualifying times.
In the field events, Beth Maher threw the shot put 41'5.00" (12.62 meters) to finish fourth, while Kelly Reynolds came in sixth in the weight throw with a 48'4.75" (14.75 meters) toss.
On the men's side, the distance medley team came in first with an IC4A qualifying time of 9:56.77. Tyler Wasilewski, Peter Lewellen and Steve Craig ran the first three legs of the race, setting up Chris Spooner for the final stage. Spooner came from behind in the final lap, overtaking the Boston College runner for first place.
