GAINESVILLE, FLA. - The 2002-03 Duke women's tennis team had its season come to a close on Wednesday as junior Amanda Johnson and its doubles team of Kelly McCain and Hillary Adams each fell in the NCAA Singles and Doubles competition at the Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville, Fla.
In the singles championship, 19th-ranked Johnson fell to top-ranked and No. 1 seed Villmarie Castellvi of Tennessee, 6-2, 6-1, and finishes the season with a 28-9 overall record. The third round finish in the championship was a career best for the Bettendorf, Iowa product.
Duke's 14th-ranked doubles tandem of McCain/Adams were knocked off by fourth-ranked Christina Fusano and Raquel Kops-Jones of California, 6-2, 6-1. The duo conclude the season with a 25-13 mark.
