The No. 18 UCSB Gauchos opened day two of the Duke Classic with a 30-16, 30-24, 30-22 win over the Duke Blue Devils Saturday morning at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
The Gauchos (8-0) outhit Duke, .313 to .147, in the match, including an impressive .477 attack percentage in the first frame. Danielle Bauer led UCSB with 17 kills and a .448 hitting percentage while Erica Menzel hit .414 with 15 kills. Courtney Guerra added 13 kills and a .448 mark and Brooke Niles tallied 42 assists.
Krista Dill led Duke with 12 kills, three blocks and a .267 hitting percentage. Sarah Salem added nine kills for the Blue Devils, who fell to 8-2 with the loss.
In game two, the No. 12 Wisconsin Badgers (5-2) defeated the American Eagles (6-4), 30-26, 30-20, 30-19. The Badgers hit .372 to the Eagles' .101 attack percentage. Lori Rittenhouse led the Badgers with 14 kills, and a .571 hitting percentage and Morgan Shields hit .545. Karla Kucerkova led American with 10 kills.
American and UCSB will battle at 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Wisconsin and Duke will square off in the tournament's final match at 7:30 p.m.
