Hofstra improves to 8-5 while the Blue Devils fall to 10-5.
After trailing 3-2 at the end of the first quarter, Duke's Greg Patchak scored the second of three goals on the day 1:55 into the second period to tie the game at 3-3. But Hofstra scored the next three goals, including two by Kessler and five of the next to give the Pride an 8-4 lead. Duke's Kevin Brennan posted his 23rd goal of the season four seconds before intermission to close the Blue Devil deficit to 8-5 at halftime.

Greg Patchak and Devan Wray brought Duke back to within 11-8 with goals in the last four minutes of the third quarter.
But once again Shanahan gave Hofstra a cushion, scoring just eight seconds into the period, his 37th goal of the year, to give the Pride a 12-8 lead. Kevin Cassese scored his 21st of the year and Chris Hartofilis notched his 20th of the season within the first five minutes of the period to close the Blue Devil deficit to 12-10, but Kessler scored an unassisted goal, his 36th on the year, on a diving shot in front of the cage at the 8:07 mark.
