CHARLOTTE, N.C.—Duke senior
Aidan Maguire was named the ACC Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week following his stellar outing against Jacksonville Saturday.
Maguire, the reigning National Midfielder of the Year, turned in a career day against the Dolphins, recording four caused turnovers, three ground balls and bolstering the offense with a pair of assists.
The leader on Duke's stalwart rope unit, Maguire forced a career-high four turnovers and helped the Blue Devils hold Jacksonville to just 10 goals and only four in the second half en route to a 16-10 victory.
In addition to spearheading the defensive effort, Maguire added a pair of assists, including the one in the final seconds of the first half that sent Duke into the locker room up, 8-6. Maguire ranks second on the team with six caused turnovers and has picked up six ground balls. Offensively, he has contributed a goal and three assists.
Playing in 60 career games, the Hingham, Massachusetts native is tied for seventh on the Duke career chart with 57 caused turnovers. He needs just three to become the seventh player to amass 60 in a career and is 10 from tying for fifth place.
Duke (4-0) came in at No. 5 in the latest USILA coaches' poll and eighth in the Inside Lacrosse top 20. The Blue Devils welcome No. 18 Saint Joseph's Sunday in a top-20 showdown on Freeman Field at Koskinen Stadium. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m., on ACCNX.
