DURHAM, N.C. – Following her strong performance in the Shriners Children's Clearwater Invitational, Duke softball senior
Aminah Vega was named ACC Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.
Vega powered the Blue Devil offense to a 3-2 weekend in Clearwater, including a pair of top-15 wins over No. 8 Texas A&M and No. 12 LSU. The DeBary, Florida, native led the way at the plate, finishing 11-for-17 (.647) on the weekend with four RBI and nine runs scored.
During the 8-6 win over the Aggies, Vega sent out a two-run blast to right center field to even the score at 4-4 in the top of the third. Vega also scored the go-ahead run in the fifth, coming home on a three-run shot from graduate student
Tyrina Jones. Vega helped guide Duke to a 5-3 victory over the Tigers in Friday's nightcap by sending an RBI-triple deep into the right center field gap to score graduate student
Jada Baker before Vega came home on a wild pitch to extend the Blue Devils' early lead.
The following day, the senior was perfect at the plate, batting 6-for-6 against Oklahoma State and No. 20 Georgia while scoring four of Duke's 10 total runs.
She was also named to the
D1Softball All-Tournament team for her efforts in the five-game invitational.
Vega and the Blue Devils travel to Elon for a single non-conference matchup with the Phoenix Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is set for 4 p.m., at Hunt Softball Park and will be streamed live on FloCollege.
