LOUISVILLE, Ky. – More preseason honors continue to roll in for the Duke men's lacrosse trio of
Aidan Maguire, Benn Johnston and
Charlie Johnson. Maguire and Johnston headline the Blue Devils' selections on the preseason USILA All-America teams with first-team nods, while Johnson garnered second-team accolades.
All three are consensus preseason All-Americans and were also named to the preseason All-ACC team. Additionally, Maguire was named the preseason Specialist of the Year by USA Lacrosse.
Maguire, Johnston, Johnson and
Henry Bard were voted captains this season for the Blue Devils. The start of the 2026 season was delayed by a couple days to weather as Duke hosts Bellarmine, Feb. 2 at noon on the Cohan Turf Fields.
Johnson and Maguire return to anchor the Duke defense after both had breakout seasons. Starting for the first time in his career, Johnson made a big splash in anchoring Duke's close defense. The Riverside, Connecticut native led the team with 32 caused turnovers while drawing the opponents' top attackmen throughout the season. His 32 takeaways were second all-time in Duke single-season history.
Maguire is a menace as a short stick defensive midfielder, collecting a Duke defensive middie record 26 caused turnovers and picking up 57 ground balls. Named the 2025 National Midfielder of the Year, Maguire was the Co-ACC Defensive Player of the Year and most recently was the lone collegiate player invited to the USA Lacrosse Men's Senior National Team training camp.
Johnston has been a leader on Duke's first midfield for the past two seasons, compiling 49 goals and 15 assists for 64 career points. A USILA All-America second team pick a year ago, Johnston was second on the team with 28 goals and picked up 25 ground balls to lead all offensive players off the ground. One of the top freshman midfield scorers in Duke history, Johnston has started all but four games in his career and is on pace to join the 100-point club this season.
The Blue Devils play five home games on Freeman Field at Koskinen Stadium from Feb. 2- March 1.
