DURHAM, N.C. – Fresh off a dominant season-opening victory at the Rod Myers Invitational, the Duke men's golf team heads to Ooltewah, Tennessee, for The Invitational at The Honors Course on Sept. 15-16.
The Blue Devils opened the
Bob Heintz era in resounding fashion last weekend, posting a 20-under-par team total to claim their fourth title at the Rod Myers Invitational. Three Duke golfers finished inside the top 10, led by junior
Bryan Kim's runner-up finish at 7-under 209. Senior
Ethan Evans tied for third at 210 (-6), while senior
William Love placed seventh at 211 (-5).
The Invitational at The Honors Course features 36 holes of continuous play on Monday, followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday. Competition takes place on the Pete Dye-designed layout, ranked the No. 1 golf course in Tennessee by
GolfDigest every year since 1987.
The 12-team field is stacked with nationally ranked programs, including No. 2 Virginia, No. 4 Auburn, No. 6 Ole Miss, No. 9 Oklahoma, No. 13 Vanderbilt, No. 14 Tennessee, No. 22 Pepperdine and No. 23 Duke. Also competing are event host Chattanooga, College of Charleston, Clemson and Marquette, along with nine individuals.
Heintz will field a lineup of Kim, Evans, Love, sophomore
John Hiller and senior
Daniel Choi. Choi finished fifth among individuals in the John H. Ryan Memorial last week, highlighted by a 1-under 71 in the second round.
Duke begins play Monday morning on the first tee, paired with Ole Miss and Tennessee, starting at 7:40. Split-tee pairings continue throughout the day for 36 holes, with the final round scheduled for Tuesday at 7:50 a.m.
