PHILADELPHIA – Former Duke men's lacrosse standouts
Brennan O'Neill and
Dyson Williams are two of the three finalists for the 2024-25 National Lacrosse League Rookie of the Year. The third finalist is Adam Poitras formerly of Loyola University.
Williams and O'Neill were the respective No. 1 picks in the 2024 and 2025 NLL Drafts, marking the first time a Blue Devil has been selected first in the NLL Entry Draft. O'Neill was the first American to be selected first overall since 1998.
The duo has not disappointed ranking first and second among rookie scorers in the NLL with Williams finishing his first campaign with 26 goals and 39 assists for 65 points and O'Neill totaling 25 goals and 33 assists for 58 points.
Williams, suiting up for the Albany Firewolves, also scored eight power-play goals and picked up 45 loose balls. The Oshawa, Ontario native's biggest moments as a rookie were his two game-winning goals in back to back games against the Georgia Swarm and Buffalo Bandits.
O'Neill, a forward for the Philadelphia Wings, garnered multiple Rookie of the Week honors and spots on Sportscenter's Top 10 plays as he transitioned to the box lacrosse game. The Bay Shore, New York native helped the Wings to one more win than a season ago just missing the playoffs.
The winner of the NLL Rookie of the Year award will be announced late next week in the lead up to Game 1 of the NLL Finals on Friday, May 16.
