DURHAM, N.C. – The 14th-ranked Duke women's lacrosse team received an at-large bid in the NCAA Championship and will face James Madison inside Klöckner Stadium in Charlottesville, Va. May 9 at 6 p.m. in the first round. Fifth-seeded Virginia serves as a host sight and will face Long Island University.
The Blue Devils are heading to the tournament for the second consecutive year and 23rd time in program history. All under the direction of head coach Kerstin Kimel, Duke boasts a 27-22 overall record on the big stage with 16 quarterfinal and seven semifinal appearances.
The championship provides a field of 29 teams to compete in a single-elimination tournament. Fifteen conference champions qualify automatically; the balance of the field is selected at-large by the NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Committee. The top eight teams in the 29-team bracket for the championship are seeded, while the top three teams receive first-round byes.
The second round of the tournament will be played May 11, and the quarterfinals will take place May 15. The semifinals and championship games will be played May 23 and 25, respectively, at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.
The Blue Devils receive an at-large bid after boasting a 12-5 overall ledger this season with a 6-3 mark in conference games. Duke recorded its most conference wins and posted its highest number of road victories since 2022. The Blue Devils opened the season with a stretch of 15 consecutive games scoring 10 or more goals, tying the program record for the most consecutive games with double-digit goals.
This will mark the seventh meeting between the Blue Devils and JMU, with Duke owning the 5-1 series history.
