HURRICANE, Utah – Former Duke women's golf standout
Gina Kim collected her third professional victory Saturday as she claimed the Cooper Rock Championship on the Epson Tour, which was contested at the Cooper Rock Golf Course in Hurricane.
The Epson Tour victory was her second of the season and third of her professional career. She also won the IOA Golf Classic in March and the Inova Mission Inn Resort & Club Championship in 2022.
"I think just being able to really enjoy all that pressure and all those nerves really helped me just settle down and still do my routine even in the midst of all of that," said Kim. "It was fun today. I loved battling it out."
Kim turned in rounds of 69, 65 and 69 over the three days to finish with a 13-under, 203, and won by one stroke over Carla Tejedo Mulet and Melanie Green (204). The Durham, N.C., native featured a hot start Saturday with birdies in three out of her first four holes. Kim took her first lead of the day at 13-under heading to the back nine as Green doubled No. 9.
With back-to-back birdies on No. 11 and No. 12, Kim increased her score to 15-under and held a commanding lead. Kim dropped shots on No. 15 and No. 18 to finish with a 13-under score, which was tied with Mulet. Mulet bogeyed the final hole to finish at 12-under and Kim earned the victory.
"I just came out here to put my best foot forward and put some good work in and it's nice to see my four-week stretch come out with a dub, so it's been nice." said Kim.
Duke was well-represented on the leaderboard at the end of the weekend as
Laetitia Beck finished tied for fifth,
Anne Chen was tied for 11th,
Erica Shepherd was tied for 28th and
Emma McMyler tied for 42nd. With Kim's victory, she now leads the Epson Tour's Race for the Card points list with 1,130.900, while Beck is second with 885.417 points.
Kim's win marks the 24th all-time by Duke golfers on the Epson Tour.
