DURHAM, N.C. – With the 2025 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) three weeks into action, a number of Duke women's soccer standouts are excelling in the league. Duke features nine former Blue Devils on rosters in 2025 –
Hannah Bebar (Bay FC), Tess Boade (Bay FC), Michelle Cooper (Kansas City Current),
Mary Long (Kansas City Current), Imani Dorsey (Utah Royals),
Ella Hase (Racing Louisville FC),
Maggie Graham (Houston Dash), Lily Nabet (Angel City FC) and Ella Stevens (NJ/NY Gotham FC).
The Blue Devils also feature four players overseas – Toni Payne (Everton), Caitlin Cosme (FC Nantes Feminines), Kayla McKenna (Grasshopper Club Zurich) and Mia Gyau (Stade de Reims). Quinn enters her first season with Vancouver Rise in the Northern Super League in Canada.
Mackenzie Pluck is also in her second season with the Brooklyn FC in the USL Super League.
National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Hannah Bebar - #41 Bay FC (NWSL)
Hannah Bebar transferred to Duke ahead of the 2024 season and played a key role in leading the Blue Devils to a semifinal appearance at the NCAA College Cup. In her lone season at Duke, she started all 22 matches in the midfield, while totaling three goals and five assists across 1,700 minutes. She earned both All-America and Academic All-America accolades. Bebar recently signed her first professional contract with Bay FC through 2027 and was also called up to join the U.S. Women's National Team for a training camp and also for the 2025 SheBelieves Cup. On March 22, she made her professional debut coming in the 74th minute against Racing Louisville FC. Bebar has returned to Duke to finish her degree at the Fuqua School of Business and will resume action with Bay FC after graduation this spring. Tess Boade - #12 Bay FC (NWSL)
Duke standout Tess Boade was selected as the No. 3 overall pick by Bay FC in the 2024 NWSL expansion draft. Bay FC, the first NWSL team in the Bay Area, kicked off its first NWSL expansion season in 2024. Boade, a 2021 Duke graduate, came off an impressive season with NC Courage, where she started 12 of 13 matches, scoring one goal and providing two assists. She helped lead the Courage to a playoff spot, finishing with a 9-7-6 record. Now a part of Bay FC, Boade, a two-time NWSL Challenge Cup champion, has also been named one of the club's captains. Last season, she wore the captain's armband four times, delivering a career-best performance with 25 appearances and three goals in regular season play. She kicked off the 2025 season starting for Bay FC in two out of the first three matches, while appearing in all three contests. She has logged 271 minutes so far. Michelle Cooper - #17 Kansas City Current (NWSL)
Cooper was selected by Kansas City as the second overall pick in the 2023 NWSL Draft, where she started 17 matches and scored three goals in her rookie season. The former Duke Blue Devil set the record for the fastest goal in NWSL history, netting a goal just 22 seconds into Kansas City's 2023 match against the Washington Spirit. She was an integral part of the Current's historic 2024 campaign, with her goal against the Chicago Red Stars officially breaking the NWSL single season record for team goals (Kansas City totaled 55). She has recently earned her first senior national team call-up for the 2025 SheBelieves Cup and registered a goal against Columbia. In 2025, Cooper has started all three matches and scored her first goal this season on March 15 versus the Portland Thorns. She added a second over the weekend against the Utah Royals as well. Cooper has posted two goals and an assist, while playing 193 minutes. Kansas City is one of only two undefeated teams in the NWSL to open the season and will next face the San Diego Wave FC Saturday, April 12 at 10 p.m., on ION.
Imani Dorsey - #28 Utah Royals FC (NWSL)
Imani Dorsey, the 2018 NWSL Rookie of the Year joined the Royals in 2023 from reigning champion Gotham FC. She became the first player on the newest iteration of URFC to have a senior U.S. Women's National Team cap. After a season ending injury in 2024, Imani Dorsey is now healthy and ready to play for this 2025 season. As of March 14, she became eligible to play and made her comeback debut on March 22 against the San Diego Wave. So far, Dorsey has seen action in two matches off the bench for the Royals. The team competes next Friday, April 11 at 10 p.m., at home against the Portland Thorns.
Maggie Graham - #23 Houston Dash (NWSL)
Coming off an impressive final season in 2024 with the Duke women's soccer team where she scored a career-best 14 goals and was a finalist for national player of the year,
Maggie Graham signed her first professional contract with the Houston Dash of the NWSL. She made her professional debut on March 14 for the club's home opener and scored off the bench. Then on March 23, Graham scored the winning goal with her first touch of the match in the 64th minute, having been introduced as a substitute just a minute beforehand. The rookie drilled a right-footed shot from the middle of the box making this her second goal of the season. Graham became the first player in NWSL history to score off the bench in her first two career regular season matches. In the last match on March 28, Graham made her first start and played the entire 90 minutes. She has two goals on two shots and seen action in 147 minutes over three matches. Graham was tabbed the NWSL Rookie of the Month on April 3, after totaling her two goals to open the year. The club next hosts Angel City FC at 5 p.m., on Saturday, April 12.
Ella Hase - #6 Racing Louisville FC
The former Duke standout signed her first professional contract with Louisville in January, after totaling 93 collegiate appearances, starting 88 of them and delivering 17 goals and 23 assists. In her lone season in Durham, Hase posted 13 assists and helped lead Duke to the NCAA College Cup. The Rookie defender made her professional debut for Racing Louisville FC against Bay FC, playing all 90 minutes of the contest and then played the full 90 minutes on Sunday against Chicago. Racing Louisville FC next hosts the Washington Spirit Saturday, April 12 at 5 p.m.
Mary Long - #19 Kansas City Current (NWSL)
After one season with the Duke women's soccer program, freshman Mary Lon
g signed a professional contract with the Kansas City Current. For Duke, Long saw action in 15 matches and totaled 465 minutes as a rookie. She had three goals and helped lead the team to the NCAA College Cup. In addition to her contribution with the Blue Devils, Long helped lead the U.S. U-17 squad to a bronze medal finish in the 2024 FIFA Women's World Cup in the Dominican Republic. She has not seen action so far in the 2025 season for the Current. Kansas City will next face the San Diego Wave FC Saturday, April 12 at 10 p.m., on ION.
Lily Nabet - #28 Angel City FC (NWSL)
Former Duke women's soccer standout Lily Nabet enters her fourth season in the professional ranks, after ending her collegiate career with 55 starts and 86 matches. She enters her second year of a two-year contract with Angel City FC and has yet to see action in 2025. Nabet saw action in 13 matches a season ago, while logging 706 minutes. The team next takes on the Houston Dash Saturday, April 12 at 5 p.m., on NWSL+ and Paramount+.
Ella Stevens - #13 NJ/NY Gotham FC (NWSL)
Since joining NJ/NY Gotham FC, in January of 2024, Ella Stevens has been one of the squads' key performers. Stevens has displayed great production on the field from her Blue Devil days all the way to now in the professional stage of her career. Her recent call-up to the senior squad should be no surprise. She started 81-of-91 career matches as a Blue Devil, tallying 24 goals, 34 assists and 82 points in over 6,600 minutes. While playing for Gotham FC last season she scored a career-high seven goals and added four assists. She found the back of the net three consecutive times in May, becoming the first player since Midge Purce in 2021 to do so for the club. So far in 2025, Stevens has started all three matches for Gotham FC and played the full 90 minutes in all three games. She will next face the North Carolina Courage at home Saturday, April 13 at 4 p.m., on NWSL+ and Paramount+.
Overseas
Kayla (McCoy) McKenna - #12 Grasshopper Club Zurich
Former Duke star Kayla McKenna recently signed with Grasshopper Club Zurich, a Swiss-based team competing in the Swiss Women's Super League. In the club's most recent match, McKenna came in at the 78th minute and fought hard to equalize the game. Despite the tough loss, the club heads to playoffs on April 12. McKenna previously played for Madrid Club de Futbol Femenino in Spain and continues to represent Jamaica on the international stage, including seeing action in the 2023 Women's World Cup. She was selected 18th overall by the Houston Dash in the 2019 NWSL College Draft, after collecting 38 goals and helped lead Duke to NCAA College Cup appearances in 2015 and 2017. Now with the Grasshopper Club Zurich, the team currently holds a 7-3-5 record for the season thus far. The Grasshoppers will next face Servette FCCF in the quarterfinals of the playoffs.
Toni Payne - #9 Everton
Everton finalized the signing of Nigeria international forward Toni Payne in July of 2024. The 29-year-old, who is versatile across the forward positions, joined the club after spending six years at Sevilla in Spain. In 2022, she was called up to play for her home country Nigeria, making her first Olympic debut as well as the World Cup. One of the most dynamic and skilled players to play at Duke, Payne netted 23 goals, 21 assists and 67 points over four years. She helped lead the Blue Devils to the 2015 NCAA College Cup. Now starting for Everton, Payne landed her first goal of the season on March 14 against Arsenal. She has started 16-of-22 appearances as Everton currently ranks eighth in the Women's Super League. Everton next faces Manchester City on April 20.
Mia Gyau - #3 Stade de Reims
Currently, Mia Gyau is playing as a defender for the Première Ligue club Stade de Reims, after previously competing with the San Diego Wave of the NWSL. Over her Duke career, she started 32-of-36 matches as she was limited due to injuries. She scored two goals and added three assists for seven points over her Blue Devil career, which included a trip to the 2017 NCAA College Cup. Despite joining Reims halfway through the season in 2024, she was able to make eight appearances during her first year with France. Now in her second season with the team she has started 10 matches thus far. Gyau and her squad currently rank 11th in the standings with the next match coming Friday, April 11 against Paris Saint-Germain FC.
Caitlin Cosme - #3 FC Nantes Feminines
A standout defender for Duke over five seasons, Caitlin Cosme started 62 out of her final 69 matches with the Blue Devils. She helped lead Duke to the 2017 NCAA College Cup as she tallied 21 points and played nearly 6,000 minutes. After two seasons with Orlando Pride, Caitlin Cosme has been continuing to make her mark with overseas club, Nantes. This is her first season with the club, so far playing a total of 16 games and securing her first goal of the season in January. She was recently named one of the top scorers for the club thus far. Ranked seventh in their league they next face Fleury on Saturday, April 12.
Northern Super League (NSL)
Quinn - #5 Vancouver Rise (NSL)
Most recently, Quinn spent six seasons playing with Seattle Reign FC in the NWSL. Over that time, they started 63-of-85 appearances, while helping Reign FC win the NWSL Shield in 2022. Quinn recently signed with Vancouver Rise FC as its newest midfielder. They join as one of Canada's most accomplished players, making more than 100 appearances for the country and helping the Red & White win their first gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, as well as a bronze medal at the Rio 2016 Olympics. The Northern Super League will kick off April 16 where you can watch the former Duke star kick off their debut season with Vancouver Rise FC.
USL Super League
Mackenzie Pluck – Brooklyn FC (USL)
Mackenzie Pluck is in her second season with Brooklyn FC of the USL Super League. She has started 17-of-19 matches on the year for Brooklyn and logged 1,531 minutes. Pluck has collected one goal this season. Since graduation, Pluck saw some time with Angel City FC and NJ/NY Gotham FC of the NWSL, before settling with Brooklyn FC of the USL. A five-year standout with the Duke women's soccer team, Pluck saw action in 107 matches, while making 78 starts as a Blue Devil. She tallied 21 goals, 29 assists and 71 points. Brooklyn owns a 9-6-6 ledger and next faces Spokane Zephyr FC on Thursday, April 3.
Marykate McGuire – Lexington FC (USL)
Marykate McGuire is in her second year with Lexington FC of the USL Super League. She ranked tied for second on the squad with four goals in 15 appearances. McGuire has started 11 of her 15 matches played. Over four seasons, McGuire saw action in 80 matches, while starting 33. She tallied 19 goals and 16 assists for 54 points for the Blue Devils. McGuire added three game-winning goals as well. Lexington will next face Dallas Trinity FC on Sunday, April 6 at 2 p.m.
