Aidan Maguire was named the 2025 ACC Men's Lacrosse Co-Defensive Player of the Year to headline the Blue Devils' five All-ACC selections as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Joining Maguire on the All-ACC squad are senior
Andrew McAdorey, junior
Charlie Johnson and sophomores
Patrick Jameison and
Benn Johnston. This is the second All-ACC recognition for McAdorey while Jameison, Johnson, Johnston and Maguire garner their first conference honors.
Notre Dame led the way with six selections while Syracuse had four, North Carolina three and Virginia one.
The fourth Blue Devil to win ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors, Maguire has been an anchor for the Duke defense and a spark on offense with six goals and four assists for 10 points. The Hingham, Massachusetts native ranks second in the ACC to the Blue Devils' Johnson with 24 caused turnovers. His 1.60 per game average is the highest among all short-stick defensive midfielders nationally and the most of any Blue Devil defensive middie in program history.
Maguire has multiple caused turnovers in eight of 15 games this season and has recorded three-plus in five games. He has also picked up at least three ground balls in nine of 15 games. Offensively, Maguire scored the overtime winner at Richmond and recorded two goals and two assists in Duke's crucial victory over Syracuse. For his career, the St. Sebastian's product has 49 career caused turnovers to rank 10th on the Duke career chart and has contributed 14 goals and nine assists for 23 points.
McAdorey, capable of playing both midfield and attack at an elite level, is tied for second in scoring for the Blue Devils with 17 goals and 19 assists. The senior captain most recently had a goal and three assists, including the helper for the winning goal, in Duke's overtime win at Virginia to clinch a spot in the ACC Championship. McAdorey has at least three points in eight games this season and registered two hat tricks. Duke's Tewaaraton nominee, McAdorey turned in a memorable performance with the final three goals in the overtime win against Michigan. McAdorey, a starter in every game of his career, ranks 26th in Duke history with 173 points (104g, 69a).
A first-year starter, Johnson has anchored Duke's outstanding defensive unit, leading the way with an ACC-best 26 caused turnovers. He earned USILA Team of the Week recognition after holding North Carolina star attackman Owen Duffy to just a goal and an assist while recording five caused turnovers and four ground balls. Johnson also had five caused turnovers at Jacksonville, becoming the first Duke defenseman to do so since Casey Carroll in 2014. With Johnson leading the charge, the Blue Devil defense has held an opponent scoreless for 10-plus minutes 19 different times, including a 20:29 drought for Syracuse.
Jameison has picked up right where he left off after his rookie season in goal. The second-year starter between the pipes most recently had a career performance with 14 saves, including two in overtime, as Duke edged Virginia in overtime to earn a berth in the ACC Championship. It was his third game this season with 14 saves and his ninth double-digit saves performance of the season. Jameison sports a .529 save percentage and a 9.52 goals against average this season to rank third in the ACC.
Leading the charge from the midfield, Johnston has 23 goals and five assists for 28 points. He has at least one goal in 13 of his 15 outings this season with his 23 goals surpassing his 21 in 19 games last year. Johnston scored a career-high five goals and six points overall in a 15-14 setback to Princeton and most recently notched the overtime winner at Virginia. A starter in 30 of his 34 games, Johnston has 44 goals and 13 assists for 57 points.
Duke (11-4) opens ACC Championship action Friday, May 2 against North Carolina. Faceoff is set for 8 p.m., on ACC Network.
