BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Following the opening 18 holes of play at The Club at Olde Stone, Duke men's golf is tied for eighth place with a 3-over, 291, in the first round of the ACC Championship. The Blue Devils were led by sophomore
Bryan Kim, who shot a 4-under, 68, on Thursday.
HOW IT HAPPENED: ROUND ONE
- Bryan Kim paced Duke's lineup with a 4-under, 68, on Thursday and is tied for second on the individual leaderboard. The sophomore began his tournament with two birdies, on holes No. 10 and 13, before bogeying the 18th and making the turn to the front-nine at 1-under. Kim immediately bounced back, pouring in a birdie putt from just outside 10 feet to get back to 2-under for the round. Kim continued his scoring by rolling in consecutive birdies on No. 5 and 6 and closed his round with three straight pars to secure his 4-under day.
- Kelly Chinn shot an even-par, 72, on Thursday. Back-to-back birdies, on the par-5 11th and par-4 12th, quickly moved the senior into red figures to start his day. After a bogey on No. 13 was promptly erased with a birdie on No. 14, Chinn dropped three shots across his next four holes to make the turn at 1-over. AÂ bogey on No. 1 pushed Chinn to 2-over, but the senior responded with a bogey-free final eight holes, while also tallying back-to-back birdies on No. 6 and 7, to close strong and at even-par for the round.
- Junior Ethan Evans played his first nine holes at 1-under but stumbled in the second half of his round en route to a 3-over, 75. The junior rolled in three birdies on the back-nine, including on both par-5's, while logging a pair of bogeys. Evans started the second half of his round with four dropped shots across the first three holes, dropping back to 3-over, but steadied the with six straight pars to end his day. Â
- William Love tallied a 4-over, 76, to open the tournament. After beginning his morning with eight pars and just a lone bogey on the back-nine, the junior turned to the front-nine and rolled in three consecutive pars before three dropped shots across his final six holes finished off the 4-over score.
- Luke Sample rounded out Duke's lineup with a 6-over, 78. The senior tallied a pair of birdies during his trip around the course, on the 200-yard, par-3, 16th and the par-5 18th, to highlight his round.
