The Opening Faceoff
- Duke moved to 9-4 following a narrow 8-7 setback to North Carolina. The Blue Devils held the Tar Heels scoreless for the final 12:44 but couldn't find the equalizing goal. Charlie Johnson anchored a solid defensive effort with five caused turnovers and four ground balls.
- Syracuse arrives in Durham with a 9-3 overall record and 2-0 mark in ACC play. The Orange lost to No. 1 Cornell, 17-12, last weekend on Long Island. Ranked seventh nationally, Syracuse features the nation's fifth-ranked scoring offense at 14.67 goals per game with Joey Spallina and Owen Hiltz leading the way with 61 and 51 points, respectively. John Mullen is seventh nationally at the faceoff dot at 63.7 percent. In goal, Jimmy McCool sports a 9.01 goals against average and a .560 save percentage.
- Duke and Syracuse meet for the 26th time with the Orange holding a 15-10 lead in the series. The Blue Devils have fared well in Durham against Syracuse, going 6-2 with the losses coming in 1938 and 2018. The Blue Devils are 3-2 in the past five matchups.

Last Time We Met
- Duke jumped out to a 5-0 lead on goal from four different players and never looked back en route to an 18-13 win in the ACC Tournament semifinal. Andrew McAdorey was the story on offense with five goals while the Duke defense held the Orange to just seven goals through three quarters. .
- The Blue Devils held Syracuse to 13 goals on 44 shots with four of the tallies coming in the final eight minutes. Joey Spallina finished with four goals while Jimmy McCool made just six saves.
Home Sweet Home
- Under head coach John Danowski, Duke is 155-28 in games in Durham. Duke has gone unbeaten at home four times since 2007. Princeton snapped Duke's five-game home win streak on Feb. 28. Duke last lost to Syracuse at Koskinen Stadium in 2018 - a 15-14 setback after the Orange scored four of the game's final five goals.

- Under John Danowski, Duke has fared well after losses. Since 2007, the Blue Devils have lost consecutive games just 11 times, including twice in 2011. Duke's longest losing streak under Danowski is three games in 2015. Prior to this season Duke had not lost back-to-back games since setbacks to Syracuse and North Carolina in 2019.
- Duke has gone 1-3 in a four-game span just four times - 2010, 2013, 2015, 2016.
Duke's Elite Rope Unit
- Duke's shortstick midfield unit is widely considered one of the best in the country. The Blue Devils feature the perfect mix of experience and talent at the position, which also plays a crucial role in faceoff success.
- Inside Lacrosse tabbed Duke's rope unit No. 2 nationally. Duke's top two shortstick middies - Aidan Maguire and Jack Gray – have played in a combined 107 games and combined for 166 ground balls and 74 caused turnovers.
- They are buoyed by freshmen Connor Nolen and Luke Warrington who have played in all eight games. Warrington has a goal, four ground balls and one caused turnover, while Nolen has two ground balls.
Aidan [Magoo] Maguire
- Nicknamed Magoo by his teammates, Aidan Maguire is having a career year. The junior short stick middie leads all Blue Devils with 24 caused turnovers and is second with 46 ground balls.
- He has multiple caused turnovers in eight of 13 games this season and has recorded three in four of the past nine outings. He has also picked up at least three ground balls in nine of 13 games.
- He is at the top of the ACC and 16th nationally in caused turnovers per game and is sixth in the ACC in ground balls per game (3.54). ¡ With 49 career caused turnovers, Maguire is 10th on the Duke career chart. The single-season record is 37 held by LSM Luke Duprey. Maguire is the first Blue Devil SSDM to have 20 caused turnovers in a season and is two away from tying for fifth in NCAA history for an SSDM.
