Geiser, Tolbert Set Meet Records on Day Two of Duke Invite

DURHAM, N.C. – Senior Abby Geiser and junior Lauren Tolbert sprinted their way to the meet records in the women's 100m and women's 800m, respectively, headlining day two of the Duke Invitational that also saw the Blue Devils post four podium finishes and advance four athletes to Saturday's event final.

Duke concludes action at the Duke Invitational on Saturday, April 12. Saturday's jam-packed schedule sees the women's long jump (11 a.m.) open up the field events before teams take the track for the women's 4x100m relay at noon. The Blue Devils will recognize their senior class for their contributions and accomplishments on Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m.

TOP PERFORMANCES:
- Abby Geiser delivered the standout performance of the day as she punched her ticket to the 100m final behind a record-setting race. Geiser clocked the fastest time of the prelims, dashing a blistering time of 11.41 seconds to unseat the previous mark set by N.C. Central's Bethany White in 2018.
- Lauren Tolbert captured Duke's second win of the weekend – this one coming in the women's 800m Invite. In a tightly-contested race from the opening gun, Tolbert came through with some bell lap heroics as the junior overtook her adversary at the last second to slot herself atop the field via a time of 2:01.87. Her time was just 0.08 seconds from matching her own school record while shattering both the eight-year-old meet and four-year-old facility records in the process.
- The Blue Devils' first victory of the Duke Invite occurred Thursday in the men's hammer throw courtesy of personal best from sophomore Christian Toro. Toro met the moment on his fifth throw of the competition, stepping into the cage and launching the hammer 70.13m (230-1 feet) to cement himself atop the competition field and No. 2 all-time at Duke.
- Graduate student Eric Bottern and sophomore Hattie Reynolds picked up runner-up finishes for the Blue Devils, while rookie Phillips Moore and graduate student Addie Renner took third in their respective events.
- Taking part in the women's 3,000m steeplechase, Reynolds had a strong showing en route to clocking 10:22.95. Bottern earned his second-place finish in the men's shot put after coming through with a personal-best throw of 18.15m (59-6.75 feet) on his sixth attempt.
- Competing alongside Bottern, Moore also came through with a clutch throw on his final attempt of the competition, posting a mark of 18.03m (59-2 feet) to slot himself third among the 42-member field. Renner represented the Blue Devils in the women's high jump 'A' and notched a third-place finish after clearing 1.66m (5-5.25 feet).
- Senior Meredith Sims and freshman Braelyn Baker also secured their spots in the 100m final as the pair turned in times of 11.74 seconds and 11.77 seconds, respectively. Sophomore Michael Scherck carved out his spot in the final of the men's 110m hurdles after crossing the finish line in 13.04 seconds.
