DURHAM, N.C. – Duke track and field shined on the final day of the Duke Invitational as the Blue Devils capped the three-day home meet in style setting several meet and facility records, winning five events and posting numerous podium finishes across the afternoon.
TOP PERFORMANCES:
- The Blue Devils dominated the women's 400m race en route to claiming two spots on the podium and three in the top four. Lauren Tolbert spearheaded the charge, parlaying a personal best of 51.83 seconds into her second event win in as many days. The junior's time smashed both the four-year-old facility record and nine-year-old meet records while improving her own No. 3 Duke mark in the process.
- Another meet and facility record came crashing down later in the afternoon behind a sensational performance from Aliya Garozzo in the women's 400m hurdles. The graduate student commanded the field from the opening gun en route to clocking 55.77 – almost two seconds faster than the runner-up. Garozzo's time shattered the meet and facility records set by former Blue Devil standout Lauren Hoffman in 2022, while bumping her up one spot on the Duke charts to No. 2 in program lore.
- Sophomore Michael Scherk sprinted his way to victory in the men's 110m hurdles after producing the fastest race of his collegiate career. Scherk clocked 13.74 seconds to earn the victory and slot himself atop the Duke charts, as his time matched the previous best set by Jeff Howser in 1971.
- Freshman Aden Bandukwala claimed the third Duke win of the afternoon – this one coming in the men's 800m. Bandukwala put on the best showing of his career, finishing his race in 1:49.21 to post the fastest time of his heat and the entire 89-person field.
- The Blue Devils pushed their win total to five events on Saturday following a sweep of the men's and women's pole vault 'A' thanks to standout performances by freshman TJ Rowan and sophomore Gemma Tutton.
- Tutton improved her own No. 3 mark on the Duke charts, registering a clearance of 4.42m (14-6 feet) to claim the win. Rowan slotted himself atop the men's field courtesy of a 5.17m (16-11.50 feet) vault.
- Julia Magliaro turned in a strong showing in the women's javelin and opened the morning with a runner-up finish. The sophomore delivered her best throw on the sixth attempt of the competition, launching the javelin 50.86m (166-10 feet) to place second among the 25-member field. Magliaro's mark was a personal best and improved her own No. 4 mark in program lore.
- Over in the men's pole vault 'B', freshman Harrison Green put on a solid display of vaulting en route to the runner-up finish. After passing on the opening height, Green cleared the next two on his third and first attempts, respectively, before bowing out with a final mark of 4.65m (15-3 feet).
