HOW IT HAPPENED
- Clemson (18-6, 1-0 ACC) was quick to open the scoring in the bottom of the second, using a two-out rally to plate four with a two-run double and two-run single.
- The Tigers posted another four-run frame in the bottom of the third to stretch to an 8-0 lead.
- The Blue Devils (15-7, 0-1 ACC) battled back in the fourth with back-to-back solo home runs from redshirt sophomore Kairi Rodriguez and sophomore Amiah Burgess to open the frame. Four batters later, redshirt junior Jada Baker ripped a two-out triple to the center field wall to score graduate student Thessa Malau'ulu, who reached on a walk. Baker then came in on an RBI-single from junior D'Auna Jennings to make it an 8-4 game.
- Clemson's offense erupted again in the home half, plating four additional runs off three hits and two Blue Devil errors to create a 12-4 gap.
- Burgess drew a two-out walk in the top of the fifth to keep the Blue Devils alive but Clemson grabbed the final out to secure the run-rule victory.
NOTES
- Duke recorded back-to-back home runs for the first time since Claire Davidson and Aminah Vega against Morgan State in the 2024 NCAA Durham Regional.
- Burgess and Rodriguez tallied their fifth and sixth career home runs, respectively.
- Burgess finished 2-for-2 at the plate, marking her fifth multi-hit performance of the season.
- Mike made her second appearance of the season in the circle.
