NEW ORLEANS, La. – Duke track and field graduate student
Simen Guttormsen was named as one of 10 individuals to the 2025 Men's Bowerman Post-NCAA Indoor Championships Watch List, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Thursday.
Guttormsen, who was also recently tapped the USTFCCCA Southeast Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year, becomes just the second Duke athlete all-time, man or woman, to be named to the prestigious list. The graduate student joins former Blue Devil standout and two-time National Champion Curtis Beach as the lone Blue Devils to achieve the feat.
Hailing from Ski, Norway, Guttormsen capped his sensational indoor season with a bang by claiming the 2025 NCAA Indoor Championship and USTFCCCA All-America First Team honors in the men's pole vault. Guttormsen notched a facility record of 5.71m (18-8.75 feet) to claim the win, becoming the second Duke man all-time to win an indoor title.
Prior to that, Guttormsen vaulted his way to the gold medal and All-ACC First Team honors at the ACC Indoor Championships courtesy of a 5.67m (18-7.25 feet) clearance. The graduate student's mark shattered both the ACC and meet records while improving his own school record in the process.
The next update of the 2025 Bowerman Watch List is scheduled for April 17.
Duke opens the 2025 outdoor season at the Raleigh Relays this weekend, with the three-day meet slated for March 27-29 at the Paul Derr Track.
