DURHAM, N.C. — Former Duke women's soccer National Player of the Year and current member of the Kansas City Current, Michelle Cooper, has received another call from U.S. Women's Soccer National Team head coach Emma Hayes as 24 players were named Tuesday to the upcoming training camp roster for two April matches against Brazil.
The U.S. National Team will face Brazil at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., on Saturday, April 5 at 5 p.m., on TNT, truTv, Max, Universo and Peacock, and at PayPal Park in San Jose, Calif., on Tuesday, April 8 at 10:30 p.m., on TBS, Max, Universo and Peacock. Hayes will name 23 players to suit up for each of the two matches.
"This roster has Olympians returning, less experienced players continuing to try to prove themselves, a few uncapped players and some players who have seen and done it all. The mix of players along with two games against a dynamic Brazil team, who we last saw in the gold medal game, means this event will be a lot of fun," said Hayes. "All of the players know they have to earn every roster spot, every starting spot and every minute they get as a finisher off the bench. Working with players who are striving for consistency in elite performance, so they can keep getting call-ups and keep exceling at this level, is an exciting process and one that continues with these two games."
Cooper, a two-time All-American at Duke, made her debut with the U.S. in the opening match against Colombia in a 2-0 victory in February. She came off the bench and played 26 minutes. With the USA leading, 1-0, Cooper made her appearance in the 62nd minute. Then, six minutes later she found the back of the net for her first goal with the national team to put the U.S. ahead 2-0. The United States ended up claiming a 2-1 victory against Australia with Cooper's tally ending up being the game-winner.
