DURHAM, N.C. – A sixth-inning rally came up short as the Blue Devils fell to Syracuse, 3-2, in the series finale at Duke Softball Stadium Saturday.
Junior pitcher
Cassidy Curd earned her second start of the series, tossing 6.2 innings while surrendering three runs off five hits with five strikeouts. Graduate student
Dani Drogemuller made her second appearance of the weekend after entering the game in the top of the seventh.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Syracuse quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Madelyn Lopez sent a two-run home run over the right field wall in the top of the first.
- It remained a 2-0 ballgame as Curd and Syracuse's Madison Knight combined to allow just four baserunners to move into scoring position over the following five frames.
- Junior D'Auna Jennings was able to spark the Blue Devils' offense in the bottom of the sixth with a leadoff double down the right field line before coming home on classmate Aminah Vega's single up the middle. Senior Ana Gold followed Vega with an RBI-single to left field to even the score at 2-2, heading into the final frame.
- Syracuse pushed ahead again in the top of the seventh with a solo shot off the bat of Madison Knight to regain the lead and ultimately secure the victory, 3-2.
NOTES
- Gold and Vega recorded their 23rd and 21st RBI of the season, respectively.
- Curd tallied her 10th appearance with five or more strikeouts.
- She shifts her season ledger to 7-5 after 19 appearances in the circle.
- The Blue Devils are 13-3 all-time against the Orange, including a 9-1 record when playing in Durham.
