The overarching goal of the True Blue Podcast is to provide fans with a greater insight into the human side of Duke Athletics through open and unadulterated conversations. True Blue is all about showing the outside world who Duke student-athletes are when they step off the fields of play. Hosted by senior Duke field hockey player Shelby Bumgarner, this will be released on a monthly basis. Â

Daniel Choi, a junior on the Duke men's golf team is TBP's 10th guest. A native of Westlake, Texas, Choi grew up with golf being a main focus in his household. A notable part of Choi's story is that his father is K.J Choi, the first Korean professional golfer to earn a PGA tour card. K.J. taught Daniel how to swing a golf club and was foundational is developing him as a Division I student-athlete. Daniel has worked hard to pave his own path athletically and personally, Duke playing a major role in that.

Choi joined the Blue Devils while ranked 23rd in the class of 2022 with a scoring differential of -3.47 when he signed. Choi won the Dragon Cup twice in three years, claiming victory in both 2020 and 2022. Â Choi was also successful in high school as he earned 6A TXHSGA First Team All-State team in 2020, 2021, and 2022.

Choi has played in seven tournaments and recorded a scoring average of 73.37 through a total of 19 rounds as a freshman. Choi made his debut at the Rod Myers Invitational, shooting an even-par 72 in the first round. He logged his highest individual finish at the Husky Individual Invitational when he finished tied for 13th.

As a sophomore, he competed in eight total tournaments and started for the team in six. Choi finished the season with a 74.32 scoring average across 22 rounds. He tied for ninth at the Stitch Intercollegiate at 7-over, 200, his best career finish, and made his postseason debut at the ACC Championship, finishing in a tie for 30th at 5-over-par, 218.Â
