DURHAM, N.C. – Four Duke fencers have received invitations to the 2025 NCAA Fencing Championship, as announced Tuesday by the NCAA Men's and Women's Fencing Committee. The championship is set for March 20-23, hosted by Penn State at its multi-sport facility.
Duke will be represented by freshman Joseph Glasson (men's foil), sophomore Charlotte Koenig (women's foil), junior Rachel Koo (women's foil) and sophomore Dayaal Singh (men's foil).Â
A true freshman, Glasson will make his first NCAA Championship appearance. An All-America honoree in 2024, Koenig is back for her second appearance after placing ninth a year ago. Koo will also make her second appearance after finishing 18th as a freshman at the 2023 event. Singh earned his first trip to the NCAA Championship after finishing third at regionals, marking Duke's highest men's foil placement since Eoin Gronningsater took gold in 2019.Â
The championship will include individual events in each of the six weapons (men's epee, men's foil, men's saber, women's epee, women's foil and women's saber). Fencers will compete in a round-robin format of five-touch bouts. After the round-robin, the top-four finishers in each weapon will fence in semifinal 15-touch bouts, with the winners fencing to determine first and second places, and the non-advancing fencers being awarded a tie for third place.
An institution's place in the championships will be based on points earned by each individual. A team will be awarded one point for each victory by its student-athletes for the duration of the championship.
