DURHAM, N.C.— Duke women's lacrosse had eight Blue Devils get on the scoresheet in its season opener against Elon in a 16-7 win inside Koskinen Stadium.
The Blue Devils' top scorer was graduate transfer Callie Hem, who had six goals and an assist in her first game as a Blue Devil. Sophomore Bella Goodwin had a hat trick along with three assists, and senior Carly Bernstein scored a pair of goals and recorded four assists. Defensively, Duke's junior goalie Kennedy Everson had six saves and graduate senior transfer Chloe Provenzano, who entered at the start of the fourth quarter, had four saves.
How it Happened
- Elon got on the board first at 12:18 in the first quarter, but Duke quickly responded with a goal from Hem and an assist by Bernstein just over two minutes later. With the goal, Duke went on a 10-0 run that extended into the second quarter.
- In the 10-0 spurt, Duke saw goals from Caitlin Barrett, Hem, Reese Woodworth, Goodwin and Mattie Shearer. With 2:30 left in the half, Elon found the back of the cage, but the Blue Devils went into intermission up 10-2.
- Defensively in the first half, Duke had five ground balls, four caused turnovers and led Elon 12-2 in draw controls.
- To start the third quarter, Hem scored with an assist from Goodwin just short of five minutes into the second half. Elon went on a 3-0 run, but the Blue Devils responded with their own 3-0 run with goals from Bernstein, Goodwin and Biancardi.
- Duke entered the fourth period up 14-5. Elon opened the scoring with a goal at 12:14. Hem responded with a goal less than five minutes later, but was quickly followed by another Phoenix goal not a minute later. The last goal of the game came from graduate transfer Chloe Hunter, who had her first as a Blue Devil.

- Blue Devil freshmen Amanda Paci, Sadie Stafford, Elektra Koulouris, Maddie MacDonald and Mabel Overbeck made their Duke debuts.
- Transfers Hem (Harvard), Adèle Swanson (Columbia), Hunter (Penn), Grace Hulslander (Harvard) and Provenzano (Harvard) also made their initial appearances in a Duke uniform.
- The Blue Devils now lead 7-1 in series history with Elon.
- Duke is now 28-2 in season-opening games.
- Hem, Tewaaraton Watch List member, scored her first goals and registered her first assist as a Blue Devil after transferring from Harvard.
- Hem had six goals, which is tied for the 13th most in a game in Duke history.
- Bernstein tied her career high in assists with four.
- Goodwin record her new career high of three assists.
- Woodworth scored her second career goal and first since Winthrop (2/18/24).
- Ava Biancardi record her first career assist and scored her third career goal and first since Winthrop (2/18/24).
